Everyone at Star HB can agree that summer camps are filled with fun!
Our camps also include, but are not limited to:
Additionally, horse camp students learn priceless lessons in responsibility. Each student is paired with a horse that they keep for the week and it is their responsibility to take care of that horse as if it were their own. This means they must feed their horse, clean their buckets, groom them, take care of their tack, and keep their stall clean.
Please note that every camp is slightly different to account for the variety of riders that we have. Our camps are perfect for the complete beginner to the return, seasoned rider! We have a horse for everyone and adjust our plans accordingly.
Our horse camps all start about the same. On the first day, an orientation is given to all students (regardless of riding ability) that goes over important rules for the barn in order to keep everyone safe. From there, the mornings consist of feeding, grooming, tacking, and doing chores. Students are paired with our guides in order to teach them how to work around the horses.
Students begin by catching and haltering their horse in the pasture. Next, they bring their horse into the barn to be fed. Once the student's horse is fed, they groom their horse and put on their tack. When everyone is tacked up, the camp goes for a ride. The morning ride is usually skill or technique based, and oftentimes will be held in one of our arenas.
The morning ride is followed by lunch and after lunch, the cycle repeats. We begin with some chores around the barn and then hop on for another ride. The afternoon ride is usually game or trail based.
Anytime the student is off of their horse, there is still plenty to do. The camper's days are filled with crafts such as tie-dying or beadwork, as well as watching skilled farriers work on the horses.
Every morning, students tack up their horse for the week. Pictured is Angelina, one of our camp horses. She is standing in the crossties while her rider gets their brushes.
Our riders learn to control their horses on and off of the trail. Pictured is one of our campers learning to maneuver her horse in the box by turning him. We have an entire obstacle course that campers work on perfecting.
Once the afternoon hits, its off to our shaded trails to beat the heat! Pictured are some of the guides taking a short trail ride around the property.
This is oftentimes our campers favorite part!
One of the ways our campers cool down is by spending some time in the barn working on arts and crafts. Students may be decorating a picture frame, painting a horseshoe, or making their own custom tie-dyed shirts. Pictured is one of our guides with their own tie-dye shirt.
Occasionally a horse and rider pair may need some specific attention. In this case, student will go into the round pen and get a mini private lesson to target whatever area they may need work on, whether it be their position, confidence, posting skills, or control. Pictured is one of our riders getting a mini lesson in English.
Horse camp is all about having fun! And the easiest way to learn is to have fun. So, we play plenty of games on horseback at summer camp. These games may be in the form of classic games like red-light-green-light or a twist on gymkhana. Pictured is one of our guides demoing how to do a stake race (gymkhana).
